Strange Squad is a game about weird, powerful individuals known as 'Agents' investigating and solving issues involving 'Aberrants': Paranormal creatures, beings, and phenomena that defy logical explanation. Agent's seek to uphold The Veil, a layer of secrecy that keeps the public from learning about these fragments of unreality, for their sake and ours.
The game runs on an easy rules-light, roll-under d100 system that keeps the game moving and the mysteries unravelling. Learning Strange Squad is easy with it's free dedicated introductory adventure, Buried in the Quagmire.
In the game, the non GM players act as characters known as Agents. Each Agent has a a set of stats, skills, and a unique Aberrancy of their very own. Making characters is quick and easy but hands full control over to players in who they want to create.
There's only so many hours in a day. Sometimes a squad's biggest obstacle isn't a ancient curse, monstrous entity, or fantastical beast but rather time. More specifically: the lack of it.
Adapting the clocks from John Harper's Blades in the Dark, Strange Squad uses a clock system to track how long each element of investigation takes, encouraging smart use of time and keeping the game moving. If the Agents don't resolve their Assignment fast enough, it's game over and the mission becomes unsalvageable.
