What Is Premodern?

Premodern is a community-created Magic: The Gathering format built around cards from Fourth Edition through Scourge, covering the 1995–2003 era.

That means goblin armies, enchantment engines, tricky counterspells, and creatures you might remember from your first collection. It’s a chance to revisit a distinctive chapter of Magic and discover just how much those cards can still do.

Premodern uses current Magic gameplay rules, a defined collection of eligible sets, and its own banned list. New releases don’t continually expand the card pool, giving you room to learn your deck, explore matchups, and develop your own approach over time.

You don’t need original printings, either. Newer printings of eligible cards are welcome.

No Deck? Start With One of Ours.

Trying a new format shouldn’t require building a whole deck before your first game.

Gamelandia has nine Premodern loaner deck options, covering everything from aggressive creatures to patient control strategies and elaborate combos.

You could lead a Goblin army, turn enchantments into a card-drawing engine, or discover what happens when a very large Phyrexian Dreadnought arrives ahead of schedule.

Browse our loaner deck guide to find a strategy that sounds fun, then ask us about availability before your visit. Deck choices depend on availability, so contact us if you have your heart set on a particular one.
