Building Your Gearloc
The first step of your Too Many Bones adventure is choosing a Gearloc. There are four Gearlocs in the Too Many Bones base game, two each in the Undertow and Unbreakable standalone expansions, and 10 add-on Gearlocs, each with their own unique skill lines and play styles. As you gain training points over the course of your adventure, you will spend them on your Gearloc Mat, increasing your skills an unlocking powerful new skill dice to roll in combat.
Gameplay
Each day, you will draw a new encounter card and follow its instructions. Most encounter cards play out on the Battle Mat, a 4x4 grid where every movement counts. Each turn, you can move and roll skill, attack, and defense dice up to your dexterity stat. Hits deal damage, inflict unfortunate effects on your enemies, and parcel out powerful buffs to you. Misses, called bones, are stored in your backup plan, where they can be unleashed later in the form of powerful, character-specific abilities. Each time you successfully complete an encounter, you gain progress points that take you closer to the unique tyrant you chose to face off against at the start of your adventure. If you earn enough progress points before time runs out, you can attempt to defeat the tyrant and win the game!
